Research, Collaboration, and Community

The Watanabe (Masa)–Chida Laboratory (Masa Lab) was established in April 2026 as the successor to the Niibori–Chida Laboratory. Building on our long-standing research in radioactive waste disposal, we have expanded our research scope to include radioactive waste treatment, creating an even broader and more dynamic research environment.

In addition to engaging in cutting-edge research, our students actively participate in academic conferences held throughout Japan, providing valuable opportunities to present their work, exchange ideas, and build professional networks.

Life in the Masa Lab extends well beyond research. Throughout the year, we enjoy a variety of social events, including welcome parties, cherry blossom viewing, Imoni (a traditional autumn taro stew event), and year-end celebrations. We also host unique events such as our popular "Nabe Jiro" gathering, where we recreate the famous Ramen Jiro experience in the laboratory, and participate in friendly competitions such as the sports festival and inter-laboratory Mario Kart tournaments.

Through these activities, we foster a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere where members support one another, enjoy spending time together, and pursue their research with both enthusiasm and professionalism.
